Whist rules
The whist version we choose to develop
on Ludopoli is a peculiar variant of bid whist. The following rules
refer to this version of whist.
Whist rules and Client interface description
Players : from 2 to 6
Deck : standard 52 card deck (no jokers)
Gameplay:
The dealer deals the same number of cards to all players (the number of cards depends on number
of players, refer to the table). If the game selected is “with trumps” then he places a card face-up that indicate
which suit count as the trumps. After all of the cards have been dealt, but prior to the beginning of game play, each player
must submit a bid. A player's bid consists of a declaration of the number of tricks that will be taken by that player. The last player
can't bid a number of tricks that will allow to all players to achieve their bids (for example : if there are four players with six
cards each, the bid of the first and second players is two tricks and the third player bid one trick, so five tricks of the six possible
are already done, the last player can't bid one trick). At the end of the bidding process the player in turn play a card and end his turn, others
player are required to follow suit to the card led, if possible, if a player cannot follow suit he must play a trump (if the game is “with
trumps”) otherwise he may play any card. The trick is won by the highest card of the suit led, unless a trump is played, in which case the highest trump wins. The
winner of the trick leads the next trick. Play continues until all cards are played, at which point the score is recorded.
Scoring
a player who won the exact number of trick he bid on
takes 10 point plus the number of tricks a player who has not satisfied his bid takes -3 minus
the difference between the the tricks made and his bid. After the score are recorded the dealer deals the
cards again. Every game has a different number of deals depending
on the number of players (refer to the table), In every deal the number of the cards increase until
it reaches a maximum (refer to the table) then the game is over; if
the option “round trip” is choosen the number of cards
after reaching the maximum decrease to the initial number. The winner is the player who, at the end of the game,
scores the maximum number of point.
